UC San Diego Health System provides comprehensive, compassionate care for patients with all stages of heart failure, both acute and chronic. Our collaborative approach offers you access to the latest diagnostics and treatment options, as well as to research studies evaluating new therapies.

Our team includes cardiac imaging specialists, electrophysiologists, interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons. We provide care from the onset of congestive heart failure symptoms through the long-term management of living with chronic heart failure or receiving a heart transplantation.

What is Heart Failure?

Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, is a condition in which the heart does not pump as much blood as the body needs. The term “failure” does not mean that the heart has stopped, only that it is not pumping blood effectively.
