UC San Diego Participates in Senior Driver Expo, March 2011
Dr. Linda Hill, UC San Diego Injury Epidemiology Prevention and Research Center and School of Medicine was a guest speaker at the Senior Driver Expo, a new pilot program to address senior mobility issues and how to continue driving as long as safely possible.
Nearly thirty agencies came together at the event, hosted by the Auto Club of Southern California, to provide resources, health screenings, and educational information to over 600 older drivers and their families.
Interactive activities included under the hood maintenance and basic auto repair tips, and demonstrations of adaptive devices and adjustments that can be made to help increase driving visibility, and maximize the built in vehicle safety features. Raffles, food, and pictures and autographs with Huell Howser, television commentator and author, created a festive atmosphere. The event proved to be very successful with 99 percentĀ of attendees stating they would recommend this event to other senior drivers and family.
