Teen Driver Safety Fair, October 29, 2011
Safe Driving Is No Accident
San Diego County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Pam Slater-Price opened TREF’s second annual Teen Driver Safety Fair at Rancho Bernardo High School, and presented a proclamation to Jan Ferree, MA, UC San Diego Health System’s Trauma and Burn Prevention Coordinator.
Presentation of proclamation on teen driver safety.
TREF partnered with the Automobile Club of Southern California, who developed the Teen Driver Safety Fair concept, and received additional funding from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and Sempra Energy.
The high energy event was attended by over 600 teens and parents. Nurses and staff from UC San Diego Trauma Center joined other community agencies to educate people on the impact of trauma and injury and what’s important for teens to stay safe on the road. Race cars, classic cars, a DJ and rock climbing wall, raffles and free Subway lunch provided a teen friendly atmosphere. Mini-workshops by trauma experts, law enforcement and DMV, provided crucial education, and a crashed car donated by a local family whose family member died as a result of a teen drinking and driving provided an important reality check.
