Wound Treatment and Research Center
The Wound Treatment and Research Center at UC San Diego Health System specializes in advanced care of chronic and problematic wounds. The Center is internationally recognized for its research and clinical care of patients with problematic wounds.
We provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a variety of wound types, with an emphasis on lower extremity wounds. Services include:
- Treatment of chronic wounds (diabetes-related, venous, vascular or pressure wounds)
- Treatment of non-healing post-surgical and traumatic wounds
- New and advanced therapies to make wounds close faster
- Community and patient education on wound care
- Advanced diabetic ulcer care
- Lower extremity surgical reconstruction related to chronic wounds
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for non-healing wounds
- Newest topical wound care agents including growth factors and tissue replacements

The Center serves as a referral center for specialized wound care. We provide care to people throughout the United States and around the world.

A Focus on Diabetes
If you have conditions with your feet and legs caused by diabetes, you have come to the right place. Diabetes-related lower extremity problems are a major focus of the Wound Treatment and Research Center. We work closely with you, your certified diabetes educator, endocrinologist and other health care providers to address these frustrating conditions.
Research is a key component of the Wound Treatment and Research Center. You may be offered the opportunity to participate in advanced, leading edge research studies focused on new therapies, medications or technologies. Research studies and clinical trials offer new avenues for treatment and provide crucial information for improving wound care. Talk to your care team about research and clinical trials.
Surgery
Surgery related to wound care and foot and ankle reconstruction is offered onsite at the Wound Treatment and Research Center. We work collaboratively with our colleagues in orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, your primary care physician and others to ensure streamlined, comprehensive care.
