When a stroke happens, every minute matters. The faster a patient is diagnosed and treated, the better the chances for recovery.  That’s why the UCSD Stroke Center is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week, providing an immediate response from a team of specialty-trained experts when a stroke patient comes to UCSD Medical Center.

The specialists at our Stroke Center are internationally recognized as leaders and experts in the fields of research, diagnosis and care. Our stroke team, which includes neurologists, vascular and endovascular surgeons and radiologists, specializes in:

  • Advanced diagnostics and treatment of acute stroke
  • Advanced stroke prevention techniques
  • Ongoing development and deployment of new treatment strategies
  • Education of other physicians in the latest diagnostic and treatment procedures

UCSD Medical Center,  San Diego’s first Joint Commission-certified stroke center, is a longtime leader in creating and using new treatments for stroke. We specialize in translating research and clinical experience into everyday patient care and are widely recognized for our use of advanced therapeutics in acute stroke, after-stroke care, and stroke prevention.

Our Stroke Center has also been recognized by the University Health-System Consortium (UHC) as one of the nation’s top academic medical centers providing stroke treatment.
