We have two MRI scanners at our Hillcrest location. One scanner is adjacent to the medical center (Dickinson Street location) and one is within the hospital. The 1.5 Tesla Siemens Symphony features the latest software upgrades including Maestro class with Syngo gradients. The 1.5 Tesla GE Signa Echospeed HDX offers the most current software level available and uses the Excite platform.

Two MRI scanners are available at UCSD's 120-bed John M. and Sally B. Thornton Hospital. The 1.5 Tesla GE Echospeed HDX MRI scanner located within Thornton hospital provides the most current software level available and uses the Excite platform. The newly remodeled MRI suite offers a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere in both the scan and control room and includes a sky panel for patients to view while lying on the scan table. The MRI adjacent to Thornton Medical Center is a 1.5 Tesla GE Twinspeed Excite System.

The 3 Tesla GE Twinspeed located within the Moore’s Cancer Center is the first clinical 3T MRI scanner in San Diego. This scanner features the latest software upgrades and offers the following capabilities and features:
- Increased SNR with increase in field strength
- High quality anatomical imaging with the use of multi channel coil technology
- Functional Imaging
- Advanced applications including cardiac, spectroscopy and vascular
- Diffusion and Perfusion Imaging
- Exablate – RF ablation of uterine fibroids
- Breast Imaging, including MR guided biopsy procedures
