Cytogenetics Laboratory

The UCSD Cytogenetics Laboratory is located at the UCSD Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine. The laboratory is a full service facility providing chromosome, FISH and microarray analysis of prenatal, somatic and cancer specimens.

Interpretation of test results and counseling for recurrence risk is an integral part of this service.

The laboratory is under the direction of a board certified Clinical Cytogeneticist and is staffed by licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists specializing in Cytogenetics.

The laboratory is licensed by the State of California Department of Public Health and accredited by the College of American Pathologists.

Types of specimens analyzed include:

• Amniotic fluid
• Chorionic villi
• Tissues (products of conception, skin biopsies, etc.)
• Peripheral blood
• Leukemic blood
• Bone Marrow
• Solid tumors
• FFPE (HER2 testing)

Tests performed

• Chromosomal analysis on blood, bone marrow, amniotic fluid, chorionic villi, and tissue specimens
• FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization analysis)
• Microarray analysis
