to drunk driving .
Nationally in 2009, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, 879 people were killed by drunk drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. In total that same year, nearly 11,000 people were killed and more than 350,000 people were injured in drunk driving collisions.
Dr. Jeanne Lee, MD, FACS, trauma surgeon, UC San Diego Health System, spoke to the media on UCSD Trauma Center's role in caring for patients that have sustained life threatening injuries due to drinking and driving. She talked about having to console the families whose loved ones have been injured or killed in collisions where drivers are impaired.
